CRCC Family Fun Night

Our church CRCC holds 'Family Fun Night' every year and it has become a well anticipated event not only for the church members (esp. the kids) but the whole community as well. It was done to have an alternative to how people celebrate Halloween. All the people who have become regulars to the event enjoys a special time with their kids without really spending a dime. Everything is free from the rides, fun activities, bounce houses, inflatable slides and even the food and drinks and most importantly the candies. Who wouldn't want to come here every year. Aside from having an excuse to 'hide' from the trick or treaters, the night has become a memorable event for people who just want to have fun in a safe and family-friendly atmosphere.
The church also puts up a prayer tent who just wants to talk and be prayed for. Although we were not able to really watch the shows, we have them there too.

CRCC Family Fun Night

The days isn't finished yet and Oct. 31 is always a long day for us. Even when we don't celebrate Halloween and the kids don't go trick or treating, we always go to our church CRCC since they hold this alternative annual event called "Family Fun Night" for the whole community and literally thousands go. Who wouldn't? With overflowing free candies, free food and a lot of fun stuff for kids and even grown-ups, it beats trick or treating house to house. David and Missy said, this was the best "Family Fun Night" ever and this was confirmed by so many people. The afternoon started quite foreboding and while driving to the event, we were met with a big downpour but the skies cleared eventually. What is surprising is that the church field didn't even become muddy.

Ophine was a volunteer in one "attraction" for younger kids for about an hour so I started with the kids in tow. I brought my backpack for the candies and our rain jackets and grew a little weary with the weight esp. of the candies but the kids were happy so continue, we did. The free food consisted of cheeseburgers, hotdogs, pizzas, drinks, chips that were consumed in the thousands. Anyway, with so many fun things to do and to experience especially for the young ones, we went home tired but happy.

Somerset Storybook Parade

David and Missy just had their Storybook Parade in their school today. This is an annual event where the students get to don costumes as a character in their chosen book for their book report project.

As always, when we pick books for them, the character and the costumes comes first in our decision which book to use. In Missy's case we were fortunate to have a Chinese dress that was given to her by Ophine's Tita Upeng a year ago I think. Missy already had one when she was smaller and when she received the new one, it was probably one size bigger. Now, it fits just fine. For her book report, we chose "Ruby's Wish," which is a story of a girl in Old China who wanted to go to University when she grows up instead of getting married and sent away in a time when it's the tradition that girls don't normally go to school of higher learning but instead just taught at home with nothing but "woman" stuff like cooking, embroidery, etc. to prepare them as housewives. Anyway, Missy liked the book as well as her teacher and classmates when she did an oral presentation about it (as mentioned by Missy).

With David, I can't seem to convince him to pick a more substantial book but since he likes Pokemon stuff so well and wanted to be Ash Ketchum, the hero in the series, we ultimately decided on the character mentioned. It's good that we were given enough time like 5 weeks to prepare for the book report. Ophine's Mom was still here and she made David's costume. When I was checking an Ash Ketchum costume on Ebay made by enterprising Moms, it was going for like $100 for a complete set. No way will we buy one but David really liked to be Ash Ketchum. I just bought some cold weather knitted gloves and made them "fingerless" and his Pokemon cap came from a red baseball cap that we already have and I just bought some white felt fabric that is adhesive backed and a small green felt to make it like the real thing.

Last year they wore Kimonos that my mother made for them and just chose the appropriate books. I made a post about last year's event HERE.
