Kids' Party

Today, we attended a kids' party in celebration of Abigail Rosario's 1st birthday. Daddy Aris and Mommy Rose are friends from the church we used to go to in Miami. As expected, we got to meet many friends whom we don't see regularly now.

Going to a Filipino party always assures everyone that you would go home very full. With the assortment of Filipino food, a party like this is always a joyous event.

I brought my camera just in case and between eating and mingling with friends, I was able to make some photos. As always, you can click on the photo to enlarge it.

Denise Calub just made it with her turn dancing the 'limbo'. My 'fav' shot of the day.

Missy turned into a vampire. Next photo is of Ophine and Missy on the kiddie train.

Next one is Vincent Blancaflor getting ready to jump and grab a hanging string. Had a hard time getting this shot. The boy is just so hyper.

Hawaiian girls galore!

I'm sorry Aris, I missed getting your picture.

Born Before 1986

I received the ff. anecdotes via email and thought that most of these things are certainly true, at least to me so I'm sharing it here. I'm sure a lot of peope born before 1986 will be able to relate.

**--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------**

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 60s, 70s and early 80s probably shouldn't have survived, because our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured Lead-based paint which was promptly chewed and licked. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pans.

When we rode our bikes, we wore no helmets, just flip-flops and fluorescent spokey dokeys on our wheels. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or airbags and riding in the passenger seat was a treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle and it tasted the same. We ate chips, bread and butter pudding and drank fizzy juice with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle or can, and no-one actually died from this. We would spend hours building go-carts out of scraps and then went top speed down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.

After running into stinging nettles a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We would leave home in the morning and could play all day, as long as we were back before it got dark. No one was able to reach us and no one minded.

We did not have Playstations or X-Boxes, no video games at all. No 99 channels on TV, no videotape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no DVDs, no Internet chatrooms. We had friends - we went outside and found them. We played elastics and rounders, and sometimes that ball really hurt. We fell out of trees, got cut, and broke bones but there were no law suits. We played knock-the-door- run-away and were actually afraid of the owners catching us. We walked to friends homes. We also, believe it or not, WALKED to school & we didn't rely on mummy or daddy to drive us to school, which was just round the corner. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls.

We rode bikes in packs of 7 and wore our coats by only the hood. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of...they actually sided with the law. This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them. Congratulations. Pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow as real kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good.

For those of you who aren't old enough, thought you might like to read about us. This my friends, is surprisingly frightening. .....and it might put a smile on your face. The majority of students in universities today were born in 1986....The Uptown Girl they know is by Westlife not Billy Joel. They have never heard of Rick Astley , Bananarama, Neneh Cherry or Belinda Carlisle. For them, there has always been only one Germany and one Vietnam . AIDS has existed since they were born. CDs have existed since they were born. Michael Jackson has always been white. To them John Travolta has always been round in shape and they can't imagine how this fat guy could be a god of dance.

They believe that Charlie's Angels and Mission Impossible are films from last year. They can never imagine life before computers. They'll never have pretended to be the A-Team, the Dukes of Hazzard or the Famous Five. They can't believe a black and white television ever existed. And they will never understand how we could leave the house without a mobile phone. Now let's check if we're getting old...

You understand what was written above and you smile. You need to sleep more, usually until the afternoon, after a night out. Your friends are getting married & already married. You are always surprised to see small children playing comfortably with computers. When you see children with mobile phones, you shake your head. Having read this, you are thinking of forwarding it to some other friends because you think they will like it too...

Yes, you're Getting old.

David's 'Blabber' about Pokemon

My son David is a Pokemon fanatic. He enjoys anything that has to do with Pokemon and that includes playing Pokemon games on his Nintendo DS and Gamecube, watching it on TV and DVD, collecting Pokemon action figures and trading cards. He considers himself a collector of Pokemon stuff. To 'memorialize' his passion at present, we made this 'Blabber' from http://www.blabberize.com/.

A few macro shots.

More Interesting Video Clips

I'm just in the mood for sharing more and now prepare to be amazed with these two.

Interesting Video Clips to Watch

I showed this video to David. There is a valuable lesson that can be learned here. Although what the first cyclist did is a norm (raising your hands before the finish line), I'm sure he'll think about that the next time he gets the same opportunity and be much more careful next time.

Battle at Kruger - Here's a video that is raw to the core but tells a very insightful story about animals in the wild. Here, you'd find the familial instinct to save a love one especially one that is so young, to ask help from others when you know you needed help, the need to protect, the resolve to be strong and brave amidst danger and so on.

President Bush was in Albania very recently. It was obvious that he's well liked in that country but one thing that you might not notice is this unless I tell you, his wristwatch gets stolen from him while wearing it and mingling with the local people. What guts does the one who stole his watch have. And what skill too! The Secret Service people were probably not expecting that but still it was kind of embarrassing on their part.

Hello Summer!

Yesterday, we all went to John U. Lloyd State Park in Dania Beach. The kids had been clamoring to go the beach for quite some time and we just waited for their school to end. We've been to South Beach in April when Ophine's cousins were here anyway. We haven't been to this particular beach for perhaps 2 or even 3 years now even though it's one of the closest beach around here. I particularly like this beach since not so many people visit the place and you can have some real peace and quiet unlike the more popular public beaches around here.

Well, things have changed on this state park. Gone are the numerous trees that are so close to the beach probably because of the hurricane that struck South Florida a few years ago. They removed the stumps that I saw there the last time and it was likely that a bulldozer was used to even out and clean the place. It is like the landscape had changed but the clean, uncluttered look doesn't look bad at all. I'm just missing the shade! Good that we brought our sun shelter which was especially helpful when it was getting too warm around noon. Good that the breeze was particularly strong. It was after all a nice day not forgetting the fact that it was an overcast and wet previous day.

The tide was low when we got there but it was an incoming tide and the kids had a swell time wallowing in the shallows. The surf was moderate and they were at first a little apprehensive but later on enjoyed the surf too.

For lunch, we just grilled some hotdogs and hamburgers. Brought a lot of cold drinks and that was it. A few days before Saturday, Missy thought that going to the picnic and going to the beach were two different things. Now she knows.

Update and Movie Clip

Not much to post lately. The kids are enjoying their summer vacation, making a lot of mess, etc., etc. and I at the moment just bought a Seagate 500 gb Free Agent external HD, ugraded my laptop memory, waiting for my Partition Magic 8.0 and Acronis True Image Back-up software to be delivered. My laptop's IHD is just so full I keep removing files, my Lacie 250 gb external HD is just not enough and of course I need to back-up the back-up and still have to burn more DVDs as back-up for my photos especially for those I made this year. You just can't rely on hard drives alone. I also got (at last) the latest but not so new Photoshop CS3 software and once I cleaned up my IHD, that will be installed.

Anyway, here's a Donald Duck cartoon movie clip from obviously along time ago so if you have the time, relax and enjoy!
