Time with Happy

Missy had always love dogs especially little cute ones and yesterday we were able to borrow Happy from our friend Edna. She's staying two nights with us and is a perfect pet. David was not so sure at first but Missy was just so comfortable with her. David learned he can be good with dogs too and was soon spending more time with Happy, even trying to "train" her with the commands sit and stay (although he was not doing it properly). Well, Happy is very easy to take care of. She doesn't make a mess and would always do her bathroom chores outside the house.

Back in the Philippines, I grew up with dogs in the house and even graduated to having a Great Dane. It was hard maintaining a large breed but a small dog like Happy would be perfect for us and the kids. Hopefully, when the kids become more responsible, we can get a pet dog for them. I'm thinking of getting a pug.

Two New Filipino Boxing Champs

Yesterday, 07-07-07 will surely be an unforgettable day for two Filipino boxers. Despite being huge underdogs, Florante Condes and Nonito Donaire wrested the belts from the title holders. Strawweight Florante Condes (22-3-1, 20 KOs) who is from Romblon dethroned IBF champion Muhammad Rachman (61-6-5, 31 KOs) by split decision in Jakarta, Indonesia. According to reports, Rachman went down twice and the fight was an all-out war. It was a split decision with the Indonesian judge giving the fight to Rachman.

Now the fight between Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire and Vic 'The Raging Bull" Darchinyan came to an end on the fifith round. I was able to watch the fight via livestream from the internet. It was not a super action packed fight but it was very clear from round 1 up to the end, Donaire was giving the then champion a boxing lesson. Donaire came out to be a masterful ring tactician, not wasting too many movements. His footwork is very good and indeed he is very fast. Darchinyan was undefeated at 28-0 with 22 KOs before the fight but Donaire was never intimidated.

I haven't found a video of the whole fight but the video from youtube below shows the final round. If you can just watch the whole event and the post fight interviews, Darchinyan looked liked he was a sore loser. Anyway, watch and enjoy!

Ophine's Birthday

Today is Ophine's birthday and she took the day off. We just went to the community clubhouse for some wet but not wild activity. The kids already took two previous swimming lessons before but still need some practice. We don't really go to the pool regularly but since it's summer we're starting to go there again.

The kids as usual enjoyed the swimming and after almost two hours of swimming, still didn't like to come out and go. After some convincing, we all went home to clean up and proceeded to 'The Ark' in Davie for some all-american buffet. This time I didn't want to go home. Just kidding!

When I Was 9 Months Young

I already had this scanned photo of myself for some time now. I "ran across" it today while surfing through my different photo folders and so I decided to tweak it, enhance it and just improve it, so here's the final outcome. That other shirt on the bottom right corner belongs to my twin brother Gary. My sister said David looked like me when I was his age.

I don't even know who took this photo. I can only think of two persons. It's either my dad or my mom but since my dad is also a photo/camera enthusiast like me (I obviously got the bug from him) and this photo is compositionally very good, then it is likely, he took this photo.

Oh, how different are the playpens from the 60's, all wood and not even a single plastic part.
